A working record

Hello, I'm
Billy Lim.

I build products, lead programs, and grow communities. For years I've helped teachers, developers, and organizers do their best work — most recently as the inaugural AI Product Manager at Uncommon Schools, where I led the enterprise rollout, built the champion network, and drove voluntary AI adoption across thousands of staff.

Uncommon Schools

Sr. Product Manager, AI

Inaugural AI PM and transformation hire across 57 schools. Drove voluntary AI adoption from 12% to 25% across 3,000+ staff with no top-down mandate, authored the governance that gated production rollout, and built the champion network (150+) that turned skeptics into advocates. Program impact earned NYT frontpage coverage.

The Wisco Project

Regional Organizing Director

Launched Northeast regional field and digital operations and managed a team of three staff organizers through the 2024 election cycle.

MongoDB

Sr. Community Engagement Manager, Global Community Programs

Founding team member for the global Champions ambassador program serving 700,000+ developers. Grew the cohort 306% in three months and built the "Voice of the Champion" feedback loops that routed community signal to Product, Engineering, and Marketing.

The TEAACH Act Collaborative

Training Facilitator & Curriculum Consultant

Co-led iterative improvement of an AANHPI training curriculum and facilitated five workshops tailored to the specific needs of each user group.

Code for America

Sr. Program Manager, Product Community

Product and community program owner for civic tech platforms (GetYourRefund.org, GetCTC.org) and a people-powered open 911 call record tool prototype. Built a 200+ technical volunteer community at 83% retention, drove trial-to-active conversion to ~75%, lifted NPS from +38 to +72, and helped deliver $310M in tax benefits.

BerlinRosen

Associate Client Manager & Senior Account Executive

Promoted into business development in thirty-one days (the team's fastest progression on record), and led the pitch that secured a $50K new-client contract.

Organizing Together 2020

Field & Digital Organizer

Became the top organizer on a thirty-five-person statewide team during the early 2020 primary cycle, planning 28+ events with consistent 15–25 attendance.

APIAVote

Programs Manager

Designed and facilitated thirty-five eight-hour civic education trainings across 28 states, partnering with 75+ organizations and earning 90%+ satisfaction from thousands of attendees.

Loop

Turns raw community chatter (chat, forums, reviews, GitHub) into a ranked product roadmap input: it normalizes events across sources, resolves identities, and uses LLM extraction + clustering to surface prioritized themes — every one linked to its source posts. When a theme ships, Loop flags the original reporters to notify. Working MVP: TypeScript, Next.js, Postgres/pgvector, Anthropic API.

  • Evidence integrity: every insight links to verbatim source posts — roadmap debates start from receipts, not vibes
  • Trajectory over volume: priority = severity × volume × momentum × recency, so a small issue doubling weekly outranks a big stale one
  • Close the loop: shipped themes generate the list of users who asked — turning critics into the first to hear "we built it"

Product Strategy Copilot

Turns 36 product strategy frameworks into an AI thought partner for applied scenarios. Augmentation of Department of Product concept.

  • Each framework provides expanded guidance, an example, custom diagram, question & answer dialog, and a framework-specific Claude prompt
  • Conversations convert into typed visuals (Impact/Effort matrix, Five Forces, Kano tiers, AARRR funnel, etc.) via per-framework JSON schemas
  • Zero-backend: Vite + React + Anthropic API direct from the browser, all state in localStorage

Claude Code

Concept Dictionary

An AI-fluent reference app for product, ML, and software concepts, built end-to-end as a non-engineer using Claude Code as the primary IDE.

  • Authored a 64-concept seeded taxonomy spanning product, ML, and software
  • Shipped a Vite + React + TypeScript SPA with a d3 force-directed knowledge graph
  • Stress tested the Anthropic tool-use API for structured-output reliability across iterations

AI PM Learning Guide

A 6-module curriculum (LLM Foundations → RAG → Agents → Orchestration → Tooling & Evals → Deploying AI Products).

  • Shipped with a progress dashboard, an SVG concept map that unlocks as you advance, a searchable glossary, a spaced-repetition review deck, and a datasets hub + importable Flowise/Make.com templates for the hands-on builds
  • Progression gate: a module unlocks the next only after you pass its quiz (≥80%) and pass at least one project — so you can't skip the building
  • Stack: Base44 (Vite + React + Tailwind + ShadCN) for the app shell and hosting, Claude API, deterministic data generation, per-browser persistence — progress is stored in localStorage

Claude Code

Origami Folds

A cross-platform mobile app that ships with a curated library of 12 origami models from beginner to advanced, and can generate fold instructions on demand for any shape via the Claude API.

  • Scoped a fuzzy brief into a shippable v1 by defining jobs to be done and forcing explicit trade-offs on platform, visualization, and AI use upfront
  • Chose SVG diagrams over a full 3D fold simulator — 90% of the value at 10% of the risk
  • Framed AI output honestly with a "may need adjustment" badge instead of overselling reliability
  • Stack: Expo / React Native (iOS + Android + web from one codebase), TypeScript + zod, react-native-svg, three.js, Anthropic Claude API with tool-use for structured output

Lovable

Rose's List

Community-powered, GPS-based, neighborhood-level dog-friendly spot finder: more specialized than Yelp or BringFido, works across any U.S. city.

  • Defined product scope, feature prioritization, and UX decisions end-to-end
  • Designed the API strategy (Google Places & Geocoding) to enable scalability across all U.S. cities without manual data entry
  • Used AI-assisted dev to ship a working prototype without writing code
